Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump counts on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of your home’s cooling system, but one of the most widely used refrigerants used for a very long time – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be in production. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. This means it will cool your home without hurting the environment. Even better news, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At ACR Air Conditioning & Heating Inc in Lake Charles, our cooling offerings can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
