What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump issues in Lake Charles during the winter time, when they’re needed the most to keep you comfortable. While you know the team at ACR Air Conditioning & Heating Inc will constantly be there ASAP when you ask for us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is necessary and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve gathered this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound ridiculous, but make sure everything is switched “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off. Inspect your thermostat to make sure it’s on, fixed to the appropriate temperature and isn’t set to cool. Then try swapping out the battery, if it has one. If everything looks accurate, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re not sure where it is) and test your fuses and circuit breaker. Make sure your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t switched on, revisit your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, confirm that it’s showing the correct time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s actually night, it may not turn your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home. Is a blockage causing your furnace to not work? Examine your air filters to confirm they’re not blocking things up. Do you have any obstructed ducts, vents or cool air entries? Are all supply registers exposed? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve moved through this checklist and you’re still deprived of heat, call ACR Air Conditioning & Heating Inc at 337-335-0992 or schedule an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the toasty and cozy place it should be.
